This work is simple in its form – in 2-3 days, with help from a few girls or women, I deconstruct a car, a few motorbikes or engines. After I show them how to use the tools and their bodies, they continue working independently. It is not a workshop where girls can learn something about mechanics; Im interested in the body – how we work with it, do we hide or show it, when audience is present, in a public space. Car deconstruction reveals gender embodiment – we have to spread legs in order to be stabile while doing this work. Greatest reward for me comes if one of the participants reaches a new level of confidence and self-consciousness through this work.
